Hong Kong Open 2025: Alwi Meets Chou Tien Chen

JAKARTA Men's singles Alwi Farhan managed to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Open 2025 and will meet the third seed from China Taipei, Chou Tien Chen.

The 2023 junior world champion kept his dream after winning over seventh seed Weng Hong Yang (China) with the final scores 22-20, 12-21, and 21-11 on Thursday, September 11, 2025, WIB night.

"Thank God, the match was not easy from the beginning of the first, second, and third games I always lost the start, but thank God (won)," said Alwi.

This is the third competitive clash between Alwi and Weng Hong Yang, all of which happened this year. Alwi is now ahead of a 2-1 win-loss record.

One previous Alwi victory occurred in the Badminton Asia Championship (BAC) in April 2025. As for the defeat, he occurred in the 2025 Malaysia Masters.

"I'm happy to be able to revans, but I still have a lot of tasks to do, especially I want to show that the Indonesian men's singles sector should be taken into account," said Alwi.

Chou Tien Chen, who will be against Alwi next, gets a ticket to the quarter-finals after winning against Kiran George from India.

Alwi, who has never met Chou Tien Chen in a competitive arena, said he would try his best in their clashes tomorrow.

"Hopefully I can prove and give the best for the men's singles, especially and Indonesia. Hopefully, luck can side with me tomorrow," he said.

Indonesia has a total of three representatives in the quarter-finals of the BWF Super 500 event. The other two tickets were obtained by the couple Adnan Maulana/Indah Cahya Sari Jamil and Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Mohammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani.
