BWF World Championships: Jonathan And Ana/Tiwi Run Aground In Quarter Finals

JAKARTA - Jonatan Christie and Febriana Dwi Puji Kusuma/Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi ran aground in the quarter-finals of the BWF 225 World Championship (BWF World Championship 2025).

The series of matches for the prestigious quarter-finals of the event will take place from Friday, August 29, 2025, to Saturday, August 30, 2025 at dawn, western Indonesia time.

Jonatan Christie's journey ended by the third seed and defending champion from Thailand, Kunlavut Vitidsarn. Jonathan lost fiercely in a three-game match.

"Today's match will certainly be my evaluation material to try again in the upcoming matches," said Jonathan in a statement received from PBSI.

Meanwhile, Febriana/Amallia had to bury them in their dreams after suffering a two-game defeat immediately against the Japanese pair, Rin Iwanaga/Kie Nakanishi.

The defeat of the two pairs makes Indonesia's hope rest with Putri Kusuma Wardani. The 23-year-old badminton player reached the semifinals after beating former Pusarla V Sindhu world champion.

This result made Putri the first Indonesian women's singles to reach the semifinals of the BWF World Championship since Lindaweni Fanetri did it in the 2015 edition in Jakarta.

The Tangerang-born badminton player will bear the burden of ending the women's singles gold medal fast since Susi Susanti climbed the highest podium in the 1993 edition in Birmingham, England.

Putri is certain to have won a medal after reaching the semifinals. At least she came home with bronze to end her Indonesian medal drought at this event since Lindaweni.
