Putri KW Becomes Indonesia's Last Hope At BWF World Championships 2025

JAKARTA - After the remaining two Indonesian representatives in the quarter-finals ran aground, Putri Kusuma Wardani became the last hope to win the 2025 BWF World Championships.

They are Jonatan Christie who lost to Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn with a score of 14-21, 21-18, 8-21 and women's doubles Febriana Dwi Puji Kusuma/Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi lost to Japanese pair Rin Iwanaga/ Kie Nakanishi with a score of 15-21, 16-21.

Meanwhile, Putri KW is scheduled to face Japan's Akane Yamaguchi in the semifinals at the Adidas Arena, Paris, France, at 15.20 WIB.

So far, Putri KW has never won against Akane in three meetings.

Finally at the Super 1000 Indonesia Open 2025, he lost two straight games 19-21, 20-22. The rest were at the Indonesia Open 2023 with a score of 12-21, 18-21, and the Super 1000 China Open 2023 with a score of 15-21, 11-21.

Even so, Putri KW's motivation was high after successfully eliminating the 2019 world champion from India Pusarla V. Sindhu in a three-game battle 21-14, 13-21, 21-16.

The victory also ended Indonesia's women's singles medal drought at the World Championship which had been going on for 10 years.

The last medal that Indonesian women's singles won was bronze through Lindaweni Fanetri in the 2015 edition in Jakarta. The last gold at the World Championships was won in 1993 through Susi Susanti.

"It can get here is not easy, there are many things I do in silence to return everything again," said Putri.

Meanwhile, Akane advanced to the semifinals after defeating Han Yue in two straight games 21-5, 21-19.

Meanwhile, in the other women's singles semifinals, South Korean first seed An Se Young faced Chinese representatives Chen Yu Fei.

Then in the men's singles sector, Shi Yu Qi from China will face Canadian representative Victor Lai in the last four. Kunlavut Vitidsarn versus Ander Antonsen in the other semifinals.

Men's doubles are filled with four representatives from different countries. Kim Won Ho/Seo Seung Jae, who is the first seed from South Korea, will meet Danish representatives Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Ramunsen.
