Iga Swiatek Escapes Heavy Test In The Second Round Of The US Open 2025

JAKARTA The second seed Iga Swiatek passed the tough test against Suzan Lamens to reach the third round of the 2025 US Open tennis event and at the same time extend his victory to seven matches.

Poland's Swiatek, forced to play for two hours and six minutes to win in three sets with a final score of 6-1, 4-6, and 6-4 at Flushing Meadows, New York, United States, on Friday, August 29, 2025.

After appearing dominant in the first set, Swiatek took the lead twice through a break in the second set. However, in the end, they were unable to stop Lamens' reckless resistance to comeback in control of the game.

"I let him take the lead after the first set. He took advantage of that opportunity and immediately knew what to do," Swiatek said as quoted by the WTA website.

This is the first time Swiatek has lost a set since his defeat to Clara Tauson in the fourth round in Montreal. In the determination set, he also had to withstand a late attack from Lamens who had trailed 1-4.

However, it was unable to prevent Swiatek from winning its 16th from its last 17 matches, including the success of winning the Wimbledon and Cincinnati Open 2025 titles this summer.

"I think he leveled up a little bit in terms of not making too many mistakes, like he did in the first set," said Swiatek, who is pursuing his seventh Grand Slam title in his career.

Swiatek will next face 29th seed Anna Kalinskaya, who beat Yulia Putintseva 6-1 and 7-5 to reach the third round of the US Open in two consecutive years.

Kalinskaya and Swiatek have beaten each other in the previous two meetings. Kalinskaya won 6-4 and 6-4 in the semifinals of Dubai 2024 and Swiatek then returned the defeat with a score of 6-3 and 6-4 in the quarter-finals of the Cincinnati Open 2025 two weeks ago.
