JAKARTA - A Manchester United supporter group has postponed demonstrations against club ownership planned for the opening day of the Premier League season.

A fan group named 1958 organized a protest march to Old Trafford on August 17, 2025, ahead of Manchester United's match against Arsenal, with banners referring to minority owners Sir Jim Radcliffe.

The group has watched various demonstrations in recent years, mainly aimed at an unpopular majority shareholder, the Glazer family, but frustration has now spread to Radcliffe.

The British billionaire, which owns 28.94 percent of the shares in the Red Devils, has sparked widespread changes - sometimes unpopular - since taking over operational control of the Glazer family in February 2024.

"Jim Ratcliffe chose to conspire with the Glazer family in our opinion, helping them maintain control," the 1958 group said last week.

However, after conducting a survey, the group acknowledged that there were differences of opinion and the timing was not right to protest.

"With a diverse and passionate supporter like ours, finding the right balance isn't always easy."

"We have to consider the momentum, timing, interest of supporters, and the broader consequences of protest activities, while assessing how current and future decisions could affect us as supporters."

"Given the current sentiment in the supporter base and especially given the results of this latest survey, there is clearly no uniform view of the club's direction under Radcliffe."

"The split is real. We believe it will be irresponsible if we take the risk of creating a situation that could result in a 'red-on-red' conflict inside or outside the stadium," the 1958 statement read.

The 1958 group said nearly 63 percent of their survey's roughly 26,000 respondents said its Ratcliffe and company Ineos should be held accountable for their decisions so far through protests.

However, 68 percent of respondents also believe they (management) should be given more time.
