JAKARTA - Liverpool have opened negotiations with Crystal Palace to recruit centre-back Marc Guehi.

The Reds have estimated that the costs to be incurred could reach around 30 million pounds (around Rp. 658 billion) plus 5 million pounds as a bonus.

The Premier League champions are looking for a new defender after Jarell Quansah's departure to Bayer Leverkusen, while Joe Gomez is out of injury.

Guehi has a one-year contract remaining at Palace. Palace chairman Steve Parish admitted earlier this week that they may have been forced to let him go this summer.

"Yes. I mean, of course we have to do it," said Parish when asked if they would listen to the offer for Guehi.

"For the caliber player to go for free, that's a problem. We've received an offer (last summer)."

"Joachim (Andersen) went (to Fulham) and we couldn't afford to lose both defenders."

"We accepted another offer in January 2025, but it was also a difficult situation. The player has his own point of view on it."

"We'll see, but it requires a new contract or some kind of deal."

"Regarding whether people are here or not, if it's the right decision for the club and they -- no one can force anyone to leave -- then there will be some changes, but we have to make smart decisions," said Parish again.

Guehi joined Palace in 2021 after developing through the Chelsea academy. Since then, he has succeeded in establishing himself in the England National Team squad.

Meanwhile, ESPN reports that Liverpool is also interested in 18-year-old centre-back Parma, Giovanni Leoni, who is also on the radar of Inter Milan.
