Staying in Serie A, Jay Idzes is Firmly Wearing a Sassuolo Uniform

JAKARTA - Indonesian national team captain Jay Idzes will remain in Serie A, or the Italian League, after being officially unveiled as a new Sassuolo player on Saturday, August 9, 2025.

"Sassuolo Calcio AS announces the permanent signing of defender Jay Idzes from Venezia FC," reads the official Sassuolo website, as quoted by Antara.

Idzes joins Sassuolo after spending two seasons with Venezia, starting in the 2023/2024 season.

Over the course of those two seasons, Idzes made 66 appearances for the club nicknamed I Leoni Alati. He led Venezia to promotion to the top flight in his first season, but the following season he failed to maintain his team's position in Italy's top flight, finishing in 19th place with 29 points from 38 matches.

That season, Idzes scored one goal and played regularly, making 35 appearances for a total of 3,128 minutes.

"Born in Mierlo on June 2, 2000, Idzes is a Dutch-born Indonesian footballer who progressed through the PSV Eindhoven youth academy. After training in the Dutch youth system, he made his professional debut with Go Ahead Eagles, where he made 93 appearances and scored three goals in three seasons," wrote Sassuolo.

Idzes's move to Sassuolo has received a warm welcome from fans in Indonesia. As of this writing, the official Instagram post from the club nicknamed the Neroverdi has received 207,000 likes, 18,800 comments, and around 7,100 reposts.

Ole Romeny and Kevin Diks are two of Idzes' teammates on the Indonesian national team who were seen congratulating him in the comments section.

Idzes is the sixth signing for the team coached by Italian coach Fabio Grosso, following Tarik Muharemovic, Ismael Kone, Sebastian Walukiewicz, Alieu Fadera, and Patrick Nuamah.

Sassuolo recently returned to Serie A after a season in the second tier, where they ultimately won with 82 points, six points ahead of second-place Pisa.

Sassuolo will face French club Brest in a preseason match at the Stadio Francis-Le Ble on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 11:00 PM WIB.

This will be Sassuolo's final preseason match before their first official match of the 2025/2026 season, when they face U.S. Catanzaro 1929 in the Coppa Italia on Friday, August 15, 2025, at home at the Mapei Stadium.

Sassuolo will then open their Serie A campaign against defending champions Napoli at the Mapei Stadium the following week, on Saturday, August 23, 2025.
