Macau Open 2025: Sabar/Reza Secure Finals

JAKARTA - Men's doubles pair Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi secured their place in the final of the 2025 Macau Open, giving Indonesia two representatives in the final stage of the tournament.

The pair advanced to the final round after defeating Fang-Chih Lee/Fang-Jen Lee of Taiwan in straight games, 21-19 and 21-17, on Saturday, August 2nd, evening WIB.

Despite their top seed status, Sabar/Reza endured a challenging first game. They conceded the first two points before rallying to a 3-2 lead.

The opposing pair then responded with four points to turn the tide and dominate, leading to a 17-14 score. Sabar/Reza then secured four points, unsettling their opponents.

The start of the second game was also unfavorable for Sabar/Reza, leading 4-0. However, their seven points turned the tide.

Fang-Chih Lee/Fang-Jen Lee regained the lead once more after that. However, they struggled to force the match into a third game.

This victory saw Sabar/Reza end the Taiwanese pair's dominance. In their two competitive encounters prior to Macau, Sabar/Reza had lost each time.

This is Sabar/Reza's second final in this year's BWF World Tour calendar. They previously reached the same stage at the Indonesia Open in early June, where they finished runner-up.

In tomorrow's final, Sabar/Reza will face fourth-seeded Junaidi Arif/Roy King Yap. The Malaysian pair advanced to the final after defeating compatriots Choong Hon Jian/Muhammad Haikal.

Before Sabar/Reza, Indonesia had secured its first men's singles berth through Alwi Farhan. The 2023 world junior champions reached their first BWF World Tour final after defeating Lakshya Sen (India).

Indonesia actually had four representatives in the semifinals of this tournament. Unfortunately, the journey of Meilysa Trias Puspitasari/Rachel Allessya Rose and Amri Syahnawi/Nita Violina Marwah ran aground.
