JAKARTA - Behind the rising trend of sports, safety is an important factor that is sometimes ruled out. Whereas literacy about first aid is essential for the ecosystem of sports players.
Ambulance delays or lack of medical facilities are often the main cause of loss of life, but the ignorance of those closest to you about how to provide first aid.
Departing from this concern, the Faculty of Nursing Sciences at the University of Indonesia (FIK UI) took concrete steps through the Research Cluster Acute & Critical Care to equip the sports community with basic knowledge and skills in dealing with emergency situations.
Quoting ANTARA, on July 20, FIK UI held a training themed Empowerment of Football Activities in Help, Maintenance, and Basic Life Assistance: Safe to Play, Alert to Help in Kerasakti Field, South Tangerang.
This activity collaborates with ABCC Football Community (ABCC FC), a football community whose members are mostly office workers who regularly play football as a weekly physical activity.
A total of 39 participants took part in this training with great enthusiasm. For them, this is not just a learning activity, but an experience that opens up new awareness about the importance of preparedness during exercise.
The training provided includes various practical aspects, such as handling minor injuries, overtaking techniques, to the practice of pulmonary heart resuscitation (RJP).
All materials are designed to be easy to understand, even by people without medical backgrounds. On the sidelines of the activity, participants also get free health check and counseling services, which are an important addition to increasing self-awareness of their respective health conditions.

Head of the Research Cluster Acute & Critical Care FIK UI Dr Masfuri, SKp, MN, explained the urgency of this activity. According to him, muscle and bone injury to sudden cardiac arrest cases is a real risk in sports, including football.
With the right action in the "golden moment" of about five to ten minutes, chances of saving lives can increase dramatically. This confirms that preparedness is not only a medical responsibility, but can be owned by anyone who is educated.
In the midst of low first aid literacy in the community, universities with related competencies are present as a liaison between knowledge and community empowerment.
Their presence asserts that anyone, anywhere, can be a helper. Don't have to wear medical uniforms or work in a hospital. Enough with basic knowledge and courage to act.
The sports community, which is often seen only as a recreational space, turns out to have great potential as an agent of change in shaping people who care more, are alert, and healthy.
