Newcastle Players Will Be Disappointed If Alexander Isak Goes This Summer

JAKARTA - Newcastle defender Dan Burn said that Alexander Isak's departure would upset the players, amid rumors of his continued move to Liverpool.

Speaking after arriving for the club's pre-season tour, Burn said he hoped Isak would survive, but admitted it was out of his control.

"Any player who leaves, it doesn't help. However, from our point of view, we will only control what we can control. We hope Alex returns when he fits."

"This is a question Alex has to answer. He's definitely an important player for us, but we also have a lot of quality players in the squad."

"Recruiting Anthony (Elanga) too, which I think is a great signing," said the England international.

Isak has not joined Newcastle on pre-season tours in Singapore and South Korea, citing minor thigh injuries.

However, in several media reports, Isak - who was also absent from a friendly defeat against Celtic due to Eddie Howe's concerns about the speculation of transfers - is open to the possibility of moving.

Midfielder Bruno Guimaraes insists he doesn't know Isak wants to leave The Magpies, but says they want to keep the best players.

"Of course, he's a top player and we know everything that's going on around him. However, he (stays at home) for physical treatment."

"We want to keep our best players, that's what I mean. What I want to say is I don't know what others have seen, but for us, he's not here because of injury."

"He's a top striker, the last three seasons have been enough to prove it. A top player. But, all I know, he's just at home because of his injury. It's not my right to talk about it, it's something the club will take care of," said Guimaraes.

Isak scored 27 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions for Newcastle for the 2024/2025 season, helping them qualify for the Champions League and winning the Carabao Cup.

ESPN reported earlier this week that Al Hilal had also explored an agreement for Isak, while Liverpool expressed interest last week.

Liverpool are the leading candidate to sign the striker if he is available. An offer of 150 million pounds (Rp 3.3 trillion) could tease Newcastle to release their star striker.

Apart from that, Newcastle started their tour with a match against Arsenal on Sunday, July 27, 2025.
