JAKARTA - Chelsea have agreed to a total deal of 60 million pounds (82 million US dollars) for Brighton striker Joao Pedro.

According to ESPN, the 23-year-old has attracted interest from Newcastle, but prefers to move to Stamford Bridge and talks with Chelsea are growing fast this week.

Pedro has agreed to a seven-year contract requirement in a deal that includes an initial fee of 55 million pounds with an additional potential of 5 million pounds.

The deal also includes a clause for Brighton to receive a percentage of each transfer fee in the future.

Pedro will undergo a medical examination in the next few days with the aim of being registered on time in order to take part in the 2025 Club World Cup campaign.

FIFA rules state that up to two players can be added before the deadline on Thursday, July 3, 2025. Chelsea will face a quarter-final match against Palmeiras in Philadelphia on Friday, July 4, 2025, local time.

The Brazil forward can be included, but another new player who will join soon, Jamie Gittens, can't because he has already played for Borussia Dortmund in the group stage and can't play in the main league.

Pedro and Gittens will join Liam Delap - who was recruited earlier this month for 30 million pounds from Ipswich Town - in reshaping Chelsea's front line and increasing the chances of Christopher Nkunku leaving the club.

Nkunku hopes to move to Bayern Munich in January 2025, but talks fail and the Bundesliga club has yet to revive their interest.
