Xabi Alonso Successfully Ends His Work At Bayer Leverkusen With An Unbeaten Record

Bayer Leverkusen successfully broke the Bundesliga record with 34 consecutive away matches without defeat against Mainz 05 in the final league match for the 2024/2025 season on Saturday, May 17, 2025.

This achievement is a slick portfolio for Manager Xabi Alonso who is ready to leave at the end of this season.

As is known, the match against Mainz 05 became Alonso's last party in Leverkusen, which will leave after two and a half years on duty.

According to ESPN reports, Real Madrid are close to agreeing on a deal with Alonso to replace Carlo Ancelotti this summer.

Alonso brought Leverkusen to an unbeaten domestic league and cup title last year and this season they remain unbeaten in an away game to pass Bayern Munich's league record with 33 away games without defeat.

Leverkusen, who will finish second behind Bayern Munich - already confirmed Bundesliga 2024/2025 champions - set a new record by making two full seasons without losing in away matches.

"Yes, in terms of football goals, of course. Very, very mean we achieved it. Going through two full seasons without a away defeat was a special thing."

"We have enough time to say goodbye. So, we want to end it with a good feeling for all," Alonso said of an unbeaten record.

The 43-year-old coach is widely expected to replace Carlo Ancelotti, who was announced as coach of the Brazil National Team last week.

However, when asked, the Spaniard did not want to comment on the next move, saying he wanted to end the season first.

"I think getting things done well is a good thing. There is a good time for everything," said Alonso.
