The American Football Indonesia Association (AAFI) has officially joined as a member of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) or the Indonesian National Olympic Committee (NOC).

This was conveyed directly by the President of NOC Indonesia, Raja Sapta Oktohari, after the 2025 Annual Member Meeting at the Fairmont Hotel, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

"We have checked the complete administrative data and they have submitted it earlier and received it from members of the Indonesian Olympic Committee," said Okto.

AAFI is accepted to be a member because of flag football's considerations, which are disciplines from athletic football, including one of the new sports at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Flag football is one of two new sports to be competed for the first time in 2028. The other new sport to be contested is a brush.

"We want to make sure that Indonesia is not only a spectator, but also an active actor in the global sports scene, including in new disciplines such as flag football," said Okto.

The football and squash flags are added to the Olympics program in Los Angeles along with cricket, cricket (sixes), and baseball/softball.

The United States is still the country that is at the top of the women's and men's flag football power. The country was followed by their neighbor Mexico.

Other countries that show hope in flag football are Germany, Japan, and Canada. However, as the 2028 Olympics approach, there is a possibility that power will emerge from other countries.
