Bruno Fernandes Returns To Good Performance: Roy Keane's Criticism Motivates Me

JAKARTA - Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes said he had great respect for the former captain of The Red Devils, Roy Keane. He wanted to do something in his own way after Keane criticized his work ethic.

Fernandes, who was named the best player in the match for Manchester United's win over Leicester City 3-0 on Sunday, March 16, 2025, was criticized by Keane on the Stick to Football podcast.

The 30-year-old Portuguese midfielder has often been criticized for his attitude on the pitch and has admitted in the past that his hand movements and complaints could anger teammates and opponents.

"I do things in my own way. Of course it's not fun to hear those things about you."

"However, at the same time, it motivates you and of course people think there are many things you need to improve."

"Of course not everything I do will be liked or thought of by people in the same way."

"I respect everyone's opinion and I really respect Roy Keane. I accept that there is a lot of room for improvement in my game, in my leadership, and everything I do in my life," Fernandes told Sky Sports.

Fernandes has scored 16 goals and made 15 assists in 44 appearances in all competitions for Manchester United this season.

He scored one goal and provided two assists in victory over Leicester.

Manchester United is currently 13th in the Premier League standings with 37 points from 29 matches.

Seeing Fernandes' response to criticism, Manchester United's manager, Ruben Amorim, also defended him.

"He's a special person in that aspect, he's always ready, he can recover pretty well."

"I don't know the future, but I read what the performance department told me, the numbers, and then what I saw in the game."

"I've always seen Bruno who is dangerous and Bruno who can recover in any situation. So, he's going to stay there."

"I already know Bruno. The most surprising thing for me is the way he works every day," Ruben said of his captain.
