All English Clubs Withdraw From The European Super League

JAKARTA - All English clubs which simultaneously announced the formation of the European Super League on Sunday, took turns declaring their withdrawal from the midweek competition against the Champions League, Wednesday morning WIB.

The six teams are Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur, who previously were part of three Italian teams and three Spanish teams and claim to be the founders of the European Super League.

Chelsea is the first team to have reportedly prepared a resignation document after their Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion had to be delayed because the Blues bus had difficulty entering the Stamford Bridge complex.

However, City is the first English club to officially announce they are going through the necessary processes to withdraw from the European Super League.

Then shortly thereafter, Arsenal, Liverpool, MU, and Tottenham released their resignation statements almost simultaneously on their respective official pages.

"Liverpool confirmed our involvement in the plan to form the European Super League was discontinued. In recent days, the club received representatives from various stakeholders, both internal and external, and we are grateful for their contribution", wrote Liverpool.

"Manchester United will not participate in the European Super League. We are listening carefully to the reactions of the supporters, the British government, and various stakeholders", wrote Manchester United, who also previously confirmed that Ed Woodward would step down from his post as club executive vice chairman at the end of 2021.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy admitted that he regretted the confusion and anger caused by the European Super League.

"We thank the supporters for their continued consideration", Levy said on Tottenham's official website.

Meanwhile, Arsenal's Management Board wrote an open letter to its supporters admitting that they made the wrong decision before.

"We aim to continue to make the right decisions for the sake of this great club, to safeguard the future, and to take us forward", read the letter.

"We did not make the right decision, we must be aware. We heard you", wrote the same letter.

As a result of listening to you and the wider football community over recent days we are withdrawing from the proposed Super League. We made a mistake, and we apologize for it.

With this latest development, the European Super League leaves only three Italian clubs AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Juventus as well as the Spanish teams, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, and Real Madrid, whose president Florentino Perez has been appointed as Chairman of the European Super League.
