Almost Complete Naturalization, Teams Geypens And Dion Markx Not Included In The 2025 U-20 Asian Cup

The Naturalization of the Geypens and Dion Markx Teams is approaching the stage of taking the oath of Indonesian citizens (WNI). Even so, both of them will not be included in the U-20 Indonesian national team squad in the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup.

The U-20 Indonesian national team will fight in the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup which will be held in China starting February 12, 2025. Four days before that, it was confirmed that Geypens and Dion had officially taken the oath of Indonesian citizens in London.

Although at that time the Team and Dion were planned to already hold the status of Indonesian citizens, the two players would not be brought by coach Indra Sjafri to strengthen the U-20 Indonesian national team.

"If at this time it is not (can be brought), it will be closed. The last registration (player) is on February 2, 2025," said Chairman of the National Team Agency (BTN), Sumardji, in a statement quoted on Friday, February 7, 2025.

"So, we have sent all the names (of the Indonesian U-20 national team players). On February 9, 2025, we have to leave," he said again.

Although it is certain that he will not participate in the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup, Sumardji emphasized that the presence of Geypens and Markx will be relied on by the team during the 2025 SEA Games.

"So, the presence of these two players is really very expected so that they can strengthen the team."

"We know that the closest one must really be prepared very well. Not only well, but very well, we must be able to maintain the (gold) SEA Games."

"If you achieve that, it might be a little bit easy. However, maintaining it is very difficult."

"Therefore, the presence of these two additional players to be able to join the U-20 Indonesian national team, God willing, it will be even stronger," said Sumardji.
