Arne Slot Wants Mohamed Salah To Stay Amid Interests From Saudi Arabia

JAKARTA - Liverpool's head coach, Arne Slot, said the club wanted Mohamed Salah to stay after this summer.

He emphasized that he was not surprised by the interest in the Egyptian from Saudi Arabian clubs.

Salah's contract expires in June 2025 and the forward revealed last month that he is still far from a new contract deal at Anfield.

Salah has long been linked with his move to Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabian Sports Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal this week told Piers Morgan Uncensored that he would be happy if Salah played in the Saudi Arabian Pro League.

"It would be surprising if anyone said they didn't want Mo Salah," Slot said when asked about Al Faisal's comments at a press conference on Friday, January 31, 2025.

"He has done very well over the years so everyone might want him."

"He has done very well without my advice so he can continue to do his best for his career, even without my advice. My advice to him would be different from Al Faisal's advice."

"Everyone wants it, including us. Of course we also want him to extend his contract. That's clear."

"However, I am not surprised that anyone wants him. He has done a lot of intelligent things in his career."

"So, he will make the right decision for himself and hopefully for us too," said Arne Slot again.

Apart from Salah, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk and vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold will also expire his contract this summer.

The last name has been the subject of an approach from Real Madrid last month. However, Los Blancos revealed they gave up in the hunt for the right-back.

"Of course. I talk to these players, not every day like Richard (Hughes), but quite often."

"It would be ridiculous if we didn't talk about the future all this time. Of course we talked about it."

"However, that is not something I will discuss (with the media). Not only with the three having expired, you are also discussing the future with other players."
