Differences In Striking Patrick Kluiver And Shin Tae-yong's Careers

JAKARTA - The news of Patrick Kluivert as Shin Tae-yong's replacement coach has spread since Shin's dismissal on Monday, January 6, 2025. Both of them turned out to have quite a striking career journey.

Although PSSI will only officially announce a replacement coach on January 12, 2025, Fabrizio Romano, journalists and world transfer experts have released that Kluivert will become coach of the Indonesian national team.

This news is clearly quite horrendous among supporters in the country. The reason is, Kluiver is considered not a commensurate successor.

In his coaching career record, Kluiver first joined in 2008 in July to be precise when he was AZ Alkmaar's striker coach.

A year and a half passed, Kluivert was recruited by Ange Postecoglou to Australian club Brisbane Roar, as assistant coach in 2010.

Kluivert then became the striker coach at NEC Nijmegen then coached FC Twenty U-21. From 45 matches with Twente U-21, Kluivert gave the team 25 wins and 13 defeats.

In the hands of CLuivert FC, Twenty U-21 ranks first in the Beloften Eredivisie (highest league for reserve teams in the Netherlands).

After a pretty good score with Jong Twente, Kluivert is trusted to be Louis van Gaal's assistant to the Dutch National Team.

In March 2015, Kluivert for the first time became a senior team coach at the Curacao National Team. However, Kluivert failed in the 2016 World Cup Qualifiers Concacaf Zone.

Failed in Curacao, Kluivert continued his career as Ajax Amsterdam U-19 coach. His career then continued to be an advisor to Curacao and Sports Director Paris Saint-Germain.

In 2018, Kluivert became hours of assistant purpose Seedorf in Cameroon's National Team. Then, become Barcelona's academy manager.

The 48-year-old coach returned to Curacao as a caretaker in 2021. However, again failed in the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers, then was beaten by Bahrain 0-4 in a friendly match.

Meanwhile, Shin Tae-yong's career journey can be considered much different from Kluiver's. This South Korean coach only has experience in the Asian region.

After becoming assistant coach of Brisbane Rour from 2005 to 2008, STY became a caretaker at his old club, Seongnam Ilhwa, in the same year.

While under his tutelage, Seongnam Ilhwa won the 2010 Asian Champions League, then won the 2011 Korean Cup.

Shin Tae-yong's career journey then continued as interim coach of the South Korean National Team in 2014 who later served as assistant to Ulie Stielke at the Taegeuk Warriors.

With the provision of training in the senior team, Shin Tae-yong later became South Korean U-23 coach and brought the team to be runners-up in the 2016 U-23 Asian Cup.

A year later, Shin Tae-yong took up the position of senior South Korean coach and brought in the 2017 EAFF Cup winning team.

In 2018, Shin Tae-yong had the opportunity to guard South Korea at the 2018 World Cup and made a surprise by beating Germany 2-0.

The result made Germany fail to qualify for the group stage even though South Korea also did not continue to the knockout phase.

Shin Tae-yong's latest career after that was to coach the Indonesian national team since 2020. Under his care, Garuda's squad ranking rose to ladder 127 from its initial position in 173 FIFA rankings.

During the handling of the Indonesian national team, the 54-year-old coach was able to make the Garuda Squad successfully set a number of records, such as qualifying for the first time for the last 16 of the Asian Cup, then for the first time being the semifinalist of the U-23 Asian Cup.
