Qualified For The Semi-finals Of The Europa League, Solskjaer Wants MU To Close The Season With A Trophy

JAKARTA - Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants Manchester United (MU) to close this season by winning at least one trophy and they have the opportunity to make that happen after continuing their steps to the semi-finals of the Europa League.

MU qualified for the semifinals after doubling the aggregate to 4-0 over Granada after winning 2-0 in the second leg of the quarter-finals at Old Trafford, Manchester, England, Thursday local time (Friday WIB).

In the semifinals, MU will meet AS Roma who can get past Ajax in the quarter-finals.

"We will look forward to the match against Roma. We have reached the semifinals. And meeting Roma is the ideal European semifinal because they are a team that has a history", said Solskjaer after the second leg to BT Sport.

"We have a relatively good track record of facing Italian teams before. We face them with the hope of reaching the final. If we can close this season with a trophy, of course, it is an extraordinary achievement", he added.

Last season, MU actually reached the semifinals in the three competitions they participated in, namely the Europa League, the English League Cup, and the FA Cup, but they never went further.

In this season's League Cup, Manchester United also stopped again in the semifinals, but Solskjaer is likely to pay for the previous four failures if he can get rid of Roma.

The existence of former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko is the Roma player Solskjaer is most concerned about.

"I don't watch much of their matches, but of course they performed well in the two legs of the quarter-final against Ajax. They have good defensive coordination, like the Italian teams", he said.

"On their front lines, we all know the quality of Edin Dzeko, so every ball that goes into our penalty box will create a danger", said Solskjaer completing.

The first leg of the semifinals will be played at Old Trafford on Thursday, April 23 next week, before Manchester United visits Rome headquarters a week later.
