JAKARTA - PSSI announced the Indonesian national team will face Oman in a test match in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as part of preparations for the 2022 World Cup qualification asia zone.

Quoted by Antara from PSSI's official website in Jakarta on Wednesday, the match became the second test of Garuda's squad in the UAE. Previously, Indonesia was confirmed against Afghanistan on May 25, 2021.

"After Afghanistan confirmed to conduct a test with the Indonesian national team on May 25, the Omani federation also agreed to conduct a test. This is certainly positive news as part of the preparation of the Indonesian national team to face the 2022 World Cup qualifying matches in the United Arab Emirates," said PSSI Chairman Mochamad Iriawan.

However, the match against Oman is still awaiting further confirmation regarding the stadium.

Indonesia will face the last three matches of Group G of the 2022 Asian Cup Qualifiers in June 2021 in the UAE. Garuda's struggle will begin Thursday, June 3 against Thailand, then Monday, June 7 against Vietnam and Friday, June 11 to host the UAE.

PSSI expects the Indonesian national team to achieve the best results from the three matches even though garuda squad has been confirmed not to qualify for the third round of 2022 World Cup qualification because it always loses in the previous five matches.

Meanwhile, PSSI Technical Director Indra Sjafri said Indonesia national team coach Shin Tae-yong asked his squad to undergo two trials before competing in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

"Coach Shin Tae-yong wants at least two test matches as a warm-up match that the Indonesian national team must play before facing the rest of the 2022 World Cup qualifying matches," Indra said.

The Indonesia national team will begin the 2022 World Cup qualification on May 1, 2021 by conducting a training center (TC) in Jakarta. They will travel to uae in mid-May 2021 to continue TC, compete in trials and compete in 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
