Tevez Said, Footballers Can Live For 6 Months Without Being Paid

Even so, Carlos Tevez said it was only natural for professional footballers at the highest level to offer to cut their wages in the midst of a crisis like now.

Like other elite players in the world, star Boca Juniors Tevez is sidelined from the gridiron after the domestic season in Argentina was suspended.

Former Manchester United and Manchester City forward Tevez emphasized that players must be able to support themselves without being paid in full.

"A footballer can live six months or a year without receiving (wages)," said Tevez on Argentine television, America TV as quoted from Soccerway, Friday, April 3.

"We are not in the same desperation as those who live with children every day, who have to leave their homes at six in the morning and return at seven at night to feed the family.

"We're not an example in this case; yes in other ways. We have to be there and help. It's easy for me to talk from home, knowing I have food for my kids.

"But desperate people, who can't move and can't leave the house. That's worrying."

However, Tevez also emphasized that the club must do everything to support these affected communities.

"The clubs have to be involved. Instead of training in the morning, they (have to) do something for the people," he said.

"For example, going to the dining room in La Boca. I would love to go there) I know that my family is fine.

"That's where a great example starts. You can make a video, like me at home from my living room, but a great example is that we all go out and help people in need."

Tevez hopes that one positive impact of this pandemic is for people to become more supportive of each other, regardless of wealth.

"Social class doesn't matter. We all want to help," he added.

"Hopefully the world will support each other more. We realize that we are all the same. May we grow as a society and tomorrow has changed the world for good. This virus teaches us about it. May this be good and good for us. All are one and come out of this crisis together.
