Tuchel Asks Not To Match Havertz With Costa: His Character Is Very Calm, We Are Aware Of His Quality

JAKARTA - Thomas Tuchel says that Kai Havertz will never have a fiery personality like Diego Costa at Chelsea, but the German coach insists the young striker can still shine as a calmer figure.

Havertz scored in the eighth minute and made an assist for Christian Pulisic's goal in the 10th minute as the Blues claimed a 4-1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday, April 10.

It was the first time tuchel's team had scored more than two goals in 17 games.

Havertz performed well as a false nine in that game against Palace after he was criticised for his performance in Chelsea's win over Porto in midweek.

Tuchel believes many people have misunderstood Havertz since arriving in West London.

'He (Havertz) is not the type like Diego Costa. He's a simple player. I would never demand he be like this," Tuchel said in a post-match press conference, which Antara quoted on Monday.

'Sometimes you don't get confused with his body language, respond to it as if he's not giving everything. The character is very calm and we are aware of the quality."

'I don't know what level he's reached and how fast he can do it. I repeat, he got out of his comfort zone by coming from Leverkusen to the Premier League; You want to challenge yourself. Now it's up to himself to show his qualities."

'He has shown very strong performances against Everton and Atletico. For us, he had a tough match against Porto and my advice was very easy: show you can be better and fight for your own place. He got a second chance and took it."

"He can be more ruthless in the final finish because he has more quality. He doesn't have to be our emotional leader because he's not that type and doesn't have to be that way," Tuchel said.
