Malaysia 2024 MotoGP Sprint Race Results: Jorge Martin Wins!

JAKARTA Jorge Martin came out as the winner of the Sprint Race race at the 2024 Malaysian MotoGP to increase his chances of locking up the world title this season.

The Spaniard started the race from second place and finished it in 19 minutes 49,230 seconds at the Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia, on Saturday, November 2 evening WIB.

He recorded a +0.913 second advantage over his compatriot six-time world champion Marc Marquez who finished second. Both were followed by Esea Bastianini who completed the top three.

Martin immediately led the race at the first corner to outperform Bagnaia who started from the leading position. While behind, Bagnaia also tried to overtake his competitors.

Unfortunately, on lap three the defending champion fell due to an error at Turn 9 so he could not continue the race. As a result, he certainly did not get any points at all.

The victory in the Sprint Race makes Martin now collect 465 points in the drivers' standings. He recorded an advantage of 29 points from Bagnaia who was in second place.

Thus, Martin will automatically become world champion in tomorrow's main race if he manages to finish first and Bagnaia only finish in third or below.

If you finish first, Martin's total points will be 490. Bagnaia will automatically not catch up with that number if he finishes third.

If that scenario occurs, the maximum point Bagnaia can get is 489 in one remaining series. That too with a note he had to win the Sprint Race and Race.
