Losing Against West Ham, Manchester United Is Closer To The Relegation Zone

JAKARTA - Manchester United lost again so that they were getting closer to the relegation zone. In a duel at the London Stadium, Sunday, October 27, 2024 evening WIB, MU had to admit the superiority of West Ham United 2-1.

MU left behind and then managed to equalize. However, the blunder made by defender Matthijs de Ligt gave MU a penalty which helped West Ham take the lead.

West Ham's success in maintaining the winning score 2-1 made MU have to lose a fourth of nine matches in domestic competitions.

MU is getting worse. Now, The Red Devils are ranked 14th with 11. The acquisition of these points has resulted in MU getting closer to the relegation zone than the top of the standings.

The reason is, MU is only seven points ahead with promoted Ipswich Town who is ranked 18th or at the top of the team in the red zone. Although MU is only six points adrift of Chelsea who are in the Champions League zone, Erik ten Hag's team finds it difficult to catch the points of the teams above them.

Meanwhile, West Ham managed to improve the ranking in the standings. The Hammers points were the same as MU. However, the London club is ahead on goal difference so they are in 13th position.

The defeat made Ten Hag closer to the threat of dismissal. However, there is no certainty whether MU will dismiss the manager whose performance has not improved.

In that match, MU was unable to put pressure on West Ham's defense despite winning in possession. In the 13th minute, captain Bruno Fernandes almost broke into the opponent's goal when he received a pass from Casemiro. Only his header is still wide.

Furthermore, West Ham, who had the opportunity to take the lead through Jarrod Bowen in the 18th minute. Unfortunately, the opportunity was wasted. Until the end of the first half, the score remained 0-0.

Entering the second half, MU still tried to appear offensive. However, their attacks never paid off. Striker Rasmus Hojlund had a chance in the 57th minute. However, his kick from outside the penalty box was saved by goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.

Despite the pressure, Julen Lopetegui's troops actually had the opportunity to break into the MU goal. Cisencio Summerville's good chance of successfully converting it after receiving an assist from Danny Ings in the 74th minute. Score 1-0 for West Ham.

But MU finally had to lose. In injury time, defender De Ligt committed a foul by dropping Ings in the penalty box. Referee David Cotte chose to review the incident via VAR. As a result, the Dutch national team defender was declared to have violated Ings and the referee pointed to the spot.
