Defeat Chelsea, Curtis Jones Brings Liverpool Back To The Throne Of The Standings

JAKARTA - Liverpool did not have long to reclaim the throne of the English Premier League standings after beating Chelsea 2-1 in the match at Anfield Stadium, Sunday, October 20, 2024 evening WIB. Midfielder Curtis Jones brought Liverpool to shift Manchester City.

Man City took just a few hours to the throne of the Premier League standings. They took the top spot after a controversial 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers shortly before Liverpool's match against Chelsea.

Man City's victory over Wolves puts at least mental pressure on Liverpool players. But Arne Slot's side were able to overcome the pressure and won an important victory in the home game.

The result made Slot set a brilliant record. He became the first manager of the Reds to bring the team to victory for 10 out of 11 matches in various competitions. Not only that, the transition of manager from Jurgen Klopp to Slot seems to be running smoothly.

Liverpool should have received a penalty again after, again, Jones was dropped in the forbidden box. This time goalkeeper Robert Sanchez did it. But after reviewing via VAR, referee John Brooks stated there was no penalty. The score remained 1-0 until the first half was over.

In the second half, Chelsea showed a comeback. The smell of the game lasted three minutes, the visitors managed to break into Liverpool's goal when striker Nicolas Jackson beat goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelher.

Only the goal that came from the Moises Caicedo assist was considered because Jackson was considered offside. However, after being reviewed by VAR, Ibrahima Konate's feet were moving to close Jackson. The goal remained valid and the score changed 1-1.

But Liverpool quickly rose. They managed to win again after Jones broke into Chelsea's goal in the 51st minute. Jones successfully completed Salah's assist and the goal became the determinant of Liverpool's victory. The 2-1 score lasted until the game was over.

Slot showed Liverpool's satisfaction to win again. Moreover, they beat one of the best teams in the Premier League.
