JAKARTA The Indonesian rock climbing team will train with hosts South Korea first before appearing at the 2024 IFSC World Cup this week in Seoul.
The Indonesian delegation has been going there since last week to face the event which will take place on 2-6 October 2024. A total of 14 athletes were deployed for this tournament.
Indonesia's rock climbing coach, Hendra Basri, said that the match was actually only held on October 4, 2024, but the team departed early because they had to follow the training agenda there.
"Our athletes have an agenda to train with South Korea. We received an invitation to train together," said Hendra at the Kemenpora Office, Jakarta, on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, afternoon WIB.
Included in the group were male speed athlete Veddriq Leonardo, who won a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics recently. However, Hendra could not leave for family reasons.

In the men's speed number, the names who left to accompany Veddriq were Aspar Jaelolo, Alfian Muhammad Fajri, Kiromal Katibin, Rahmad Adi Mulyono, and Raharjati Nursamsa.
The other eight names consist of two male leads and six women's speeds. Two names from the men's lead, namely Ravianto Ramadhan and Raviandi Ramadhan.
Meanwhile, at the women's speed there are Nurul Iqamah, Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi, Alivany Ver Khadijah, Puja Lestari, Susan Nur Hidayah, and Rajiah Sallsabillah.
The IFSC World Cup 2024 is the ninth series this year or the final series. This is the first important event that Indonesian climbers have participated after Veddriq triumphed in France.
Hendra explained that the World Cup in Seoul is important to collect points so that Indonesia can get maximum quota for next year's World Cup series.
"If we don't have enough points, most likely the quota for participating in next year's World Cup series will be reduced," said Hendra.
The quota per country is actually only two, two men and two daughters each. If Indonesia enters the top 10, it will automatically get additional athletes through wildcard facilities.
The IFSC World Cup Seoul 2024 will take place at the Kangnam Spots Climbing Center. The ninth edition of the 2024 IFSC World Cup series will break records.
