China Open 2024: Dejan/Gloria's Smooth Path

Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja passed the first round of the 2024 China Open (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA - Mixed doubles pair Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja did not encounter any obstacles at all to going through the first round of the 2024 China Open.

Dejan/Gloria got a ticket for the second half after winning over Lee Chun's pair Hei Way/Ng Tsz Yau at the Olympic Sport Center Gymnasium, China, on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, afternoon WIB.

The Hong Kong pair were forced to withdraw in the second game after men's player Lee Chun Hei Way suffered an injury in the second game interval at 11-3 for the advantage of the Indonesian pair.

Before winning far in the second game, Dejan/Gloria also appeared almost flawlessly in the first game. They only played tight at the beginning of the game before locking up the playing with a convincing score of 21-7.

"It is not what is expected to win in this way, but we are still grateful that we were finally able to get through the first half," said Dejan in a statement received from PBSI.

This result also ended Dejan/Gloria's unsatisfactory record in the previous four tournaments in Canada, Japan, Korea and the Hong Kong Open 2024. In those tournaments, their steps ran aground in the first half all.

Dejan said that the results at the 2024 China Open could at least provide fresh air for him and his partner. He also wants them to be able to continue this sweet record at a tournament like the China Open.

"This is our capital to try to get up because it is not easy to get through this. We are ready with field conditions, adaptation was also quite good earlier. That's what made our start quite good," he said.

Indonesia has sent a total of 10 representatives to the China Open 2024. Dejan/Gloria are also the only representatives of the mixed doubles sector in the event with the Super 1000 BWF level.
