JAKARTA Badminton player Gregoria Mariska Tunjung encourages the regeneration of Indonesian women's singles numbers to be accelerated for an increase in achievement.

The bronze medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics is currently Indonesia's biggest hope in important international events.

Gregoria said that Indonesia's potential is certainly very large, so she also hopes that stakeholders can be observant about monitoring new talents.

"Talking about my sector in the women's singles, of course I hope [the relevant parties] can see the potential of Indonesian women's singles. There must be a lot that stands out," said Gregoria.

The Indonesian women's singles number is recorded to have to wait long enough to get a medal from the Olympics again, a prestigious four-year event.

The last women's singles before Gregoria brought home the medal to the country was Maria Kristin Yulianti at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China.

Maria Kristin at that time also brought home a bronze medal. In total, the women's singles only contributed five medals for Indonesia from the Olympics.

Of that number, Susi Susanti got only one gold medal at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. The remaining one silver and three bronze.

"I hope there will be good regeneration from my sector. I myself now see my younger siblings' achievements are increasing, and as a senior, I feel proud. Hopefully the regeneration will be better and can contribute to international titles," said Gregoria.

Gregoria herself is currently 24 years old. This means that she is 28 years old at the next Olympics in Los Angeles, United States.

Indonesia currently still has several potential names from women's singles. Three of them are quite familiar, namely Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo, Komang Ayu Cahya Dewi, and Putri Kusuma Wardani.

Of the three names, only Ester is the most young, namely 18 years old. Meanwhile, Komang and Putri KW are 21 and 22 years old, respectively.
