JAKARTA - The Executive Board of the Indonesian Athletics Association (PB PASI) sent an athletic team to participate in The 2nd Belt and Road Athletics Invitation Meeting in Chongging, China. The match will take place from 27-29 May 2024.

"The athletic team will compete in several sprint numbers, medium and long distance running, goal, throwing," said Head of PB PASI Achievement Development Division Ria Lumintuarso quoting Antara.

The number of athletes sent to compete in the championship consisted of 10 athletes who were accompanied by two coaches, namely Fitri Haryadi and Krisna Wahyu.

Ria explained that the championship was part of the qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Indonesian athletic team, he said, still had to fight extra hard because the target of qualifying for the world's highest sporting event was still far away.

"In the number that passes the limit, the qualifications can be calculated, but for Indonesia, the target to qualify is still far away," he said.

Currently, PB PASI is still struggling to pass athletes to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Two mainstay athletes, runners 100 meters Then Muhammad Zohri and marathon runner Odekta Elvina Naibaho are also still struggling through qualifying by participating in a number of championships until June 2024.

Previously, the Secretary General of PB PASI Tigor Tanjung said that Odekta and Zohri did not rely on giving wildcards to compete at the Paris Olympics but struggled through the qualifying path.

"Wildcard is given to countries whose athletes do not pass the qualifications," he said.

PB PASI asked for support from various parties to the two mainstay athletes who fought in qualifying in order to achieve the best results for the Paris Olympics.
