JAKARTA - The German national team donated 2.5 million euros to help fight the COVID-19 pandemic or the corona virus and its effects.

Germany is one of many countries suffering from the COVID-19 outbreak, with figures shown by the World Health Organization (WHO) reaching more than 7,000 cases and 13 deaths in the country as of Wednesday.

In a statement from Die Mannschaft - as well as a double call on all parties to provide assistance where possible - the team praised the efforts of the various parties in helping each other.

"The world of football has stopped - people's health and overcoming this virus is without question the number one priority at the moment," read the statement, launching Soccerway, Thursday, March 19.

"We recognize that for many of you, things have not stopped and must go on.

"We have all seen the effort and commitment you have shown, how you have supported and helped each other - in hospitals, nursing homes, in supermarkets and in your community, from one neighbor to another. Inspiring!

"This show of solidarity has never been more important, and we as a team want to do a little bit to help.

That is the reason why the German national team immediately decided to donate 2.5 million euros to help fight the corona virus.

"Every action and offer of help counts. Whatever it is to make a difference. Stay healthy and take care of each other and yourself."
