Defenders Who Only 'Jogging' Make MU Fail To Win Against Brentford

JAKARTA - Manchester United failed to maintain performance and showed consistency during their 1-1 draw against Brentford in the English Premier League match. Manchester goalkeeper legend Peter Schmeichel sparked defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka who was just 'jogging' so Brentford could equalize.

Manager Erik ten Hag claims Manchester United must win all Premier League matches in order to maintain competition for tickets to the Champions League. Only that claim could not be realized even though MU faced the bottom team.

Even Brentford showed his dominance. Despite conceding through Mason Mount's goal when the game entered injury time, The Bees didn't give up at all. They imitate the spirit of never giving up the Red Devils before the final whistle sounded.

As a result, in the 90+9 minute, Brentford equalized. Kristoffer Ajer's goal shows Brentford deserves points after showing dominance throughout the game.

"The results are appropriate and they [MU] don't deserve to win 1-0. You can see the statistics and who did a lot of touch in the opponent's penalty box. But I saw how much the team played, how far they ran," Schmeichel was quoted as saying by football 365.

"[Player] Brentford ran five km further and this already shows how the game is. They always chase the ball. Ivan Toney [striker Brentford] dominates anyone. The current MU standard of playing is very low," he said.

Schmeichel also admitted that he was surprised if he lost the team, which was said to be playing well. The legendary Manchester United goalkeeper highlighted Wan-Bissaka who was just walking around when Brentford was building an attack and led to a return goal.

"You watched what Wan-Bissaka did during Brentford's goal. That's what I mean by MU's standard game. Wan-Bissaka is already behind and when there's a cross, look what he's doing. He's just walking and walking. He's just dancing!" Schmeichel said.

"That goal didn't have to happen. Look what he did. It wasn't Manchester United's style of play. There was absolutely no pride shown by the player. He didn't show any MU playing standards. Just look at him not focusing on his duties at all," he said.

A draw against Brentford shows Manchester United's unstable performance this season. It was different when they appeared with high spirits when they won 4-3 against Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

After performing optimally when eliminating Liverpool, Ten Hag's troops were indeed sluggish when competing in the Premier League. Ironic that Ten Hag said the team had to win every game to penetrate the Champions League zone.

Ten Hag also admitted that he was disappointed. The reason is that the team failed to show aggressiveness in that match. Even Ten Hag had warned Brentford was not an easy opponent because Man City only had a lucky chance to win.

"We shouldn't have shown any form against Brentford. I've seen Man City just as lucky to win. Likewise against Liverpool, they should have been ahead in the first 35 minutes. We should have played better. I'm clearly disappointed with the team's performance," said Ten Hag.

"Players are also disappointed with their performance. We really have to be more consistent with the way we face the game. We have to be more aggressive," he said further.

When MU only won one point, on the other hand, two of its competitors, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur won.

This makes MU even more lagging behind Villa and Tottenham. However, Ten Hag believes Manchester United can still hunt down their competitors and win Champions League tickets.
