Lifters Rahmat Erwin And Rizky Juniansyah Compete To Win Tickets For The 2024 Olympics

Rahmat Erwin Abdullah competed with compatriots to win tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympics (doc. Special).

JAKARTA The mainstay Indonesian lifter duo, Rahmat Erwin Abdullah and Rizky Juniansyah, must compete to win a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The two lifters are included in the group that will appear at the 2024 Weightlifting World Championship (2024 IWF World Cup) in Phuket, Thailand, March 31 to April 11, 2024.

At that event, Rahmat and Rizky will appear in the 73 kg class. Who is the best going to Paris, according to applicable regulations, namely one country only has one ticket for each class that is competed.

"Rahmat is indeed ranked first in the world, but he will compete with Rizky Juniansyah for a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics."

"Anyone who is best will have a place at the Indonesian contingent for the 2024 Paris Olympics," said Erwin Abdullah, coach Rahmat Erwin.

Rahmat and his friends will go to Thailand on Thursday, March 28, 2024. However, Erwin and Rizky will only appear on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.

Rahmat is the current world record holder. The total number of snatches and clean and jerks engraved at the 2024 Asian Weightlifting Championships in Uzbekistan has yet to be resolved.

In the championship, the South Sulawesi-born lifter won three gold medals and sharpened the world record in his own name for the clean and jerk class.

At that time, Rahmat recorded a total lift of 363 kg (snatch weighing 159 kg and clean and jerk 204 kg).

The clean and jerk class surpassed its own record of 201 kg, which he made when he won the 2022 Asian Games gold medal in Hangzhou, China.

Meanwhile, a total lift of 363 kg at the 2024 Asian Weightlifting Championship brought Rahmat to break the world record of Chinese lifter Shi Zhi Yong, who was at 262 kg.

"Rahmat is in top condition to appear and fight for tickets to Paris. Hopefully Rahmat can maintain the snatch and clean and jerk that was achieved at the 2024 Asian Weightlifting Championships," said Erwin.

Meanwhile, Rizki Juniansyah who also fell in the 73 kg class overshadowed Rahmat by winning a silver medal at the 2024 Asian Weightlifting Championship.

Rizki secured aaurk medal with a snatch of 158 kg, a clean and jerk of 195 kg, and a total lift of 353 kg.

Apart from that, at the 2024 Weightlifting World Championships, senior lifter Eko Yuli Irawan will also compete with Ricko Sahputra in the 61 kg class to get a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Eko Yuli is the only Indonesian lifter who has previously appeared in four Olympics. Every time he appears, this 33-year-old man always brings home a medal.

In the latest edition of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Eko Yuli won a silver medal. Previously, he won a silver medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, as well as a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2018 Beijing Olympics.

Ricko Sahputra is the winner of three 61 kg class gold medals at Turkey's 2022 Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG) as well as two gold medals and silver medals at the 2022 Bahrain Weightlifting Asian Championship. Finally, Ricko won two gold medals at the 2023 Cuban IWF Grand Prix.
