Officially To Bayern Munich, Eric Dier Follows Harry Kane

JAKARTA - Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier has officially joined Bayern Munich. With the status of a loan player, Dier followed his colleague Harry Kane who is now Bayern's front line mainstay.

Dier did not get a permanent contract when he moved to Bayern. German Bundesliga giant borrowed the England national defender for six months or until the end of the 2023/2024 season competition.

Bayern also has the option of extending Dier's contract for the next year. Moreover, he is no longer bound by The Lilywhites.

Dier's move also gave benefits to both the club and the player himself. Tottenham can release Dier, whose contract period expires in 2024.

Previously, the 29-year-old had difficulty getting a place in the first team since Tottenham was handled by Ange Postecoglou. He has only played four times.

Dier himself has played more than 300 times since he joined the North London club in 2014.

Neither Bayern nor Tottenham mentioned the figures from the loan. But British media said Bayern paid Tottenham 3.5 million euros for Dier's loan.

"We have long considered him [to recruit him] when the opening of Eric's transfer window will be an important part of our defense. His abilities and experience will help the team in the field and the dressing room," Bayern explained.

Dier was actually played more often as a defensive midfielder when Tottenham was handled by Mauricio Pochettino. But he is also very fluent in playing as a center-back.

Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel also prepared Dier to play in the heart of defense. Thus Tuchel does not need to move Leon Goretzka and he can focus on his original position as a defensive midfielder.

"He's a centre-back specialist. He did play 'number 6' in the Premier League but it wasn't long," said Tuchel.

"He will be in the center-back position. Moreover, he can play as a right-back or left-back. With him, it means that Leon Goretzka can return to playing in the middle. Fia doesn't need to be held back anymore," said the former Chelsea manager.

At the new club, Dier reunited with Kane who had already joined Bayern at the start of the season. Kane also became Bayern's front line mainstay.
