BWF World Tour Finals 2023: Jonathan Aims To Pass The Group Round First

JAKARTA The men's singles badminton player Jonatan Christie targets to be able to get through the group stage at the World Tour Finals 2023 next week. The closing competition for the series of tours of the season will take place from December 13 to 17, tomorrow in Hangzhou, China. Jonathan is one of the two men's singles participating.

The owner of the 2018 Asian Games gold medal said he did not want to set the target too high early. He emphasized that he would focus on the stage by stage only.

"The target is to want to appear as much as possible. We will definitely want to get the best results. The main target is in the semi-finals first," he said at the PBSI National Training Center, Cipayung, East Jakarta.

BWF World Tour Finals involves a total of 40 representatives from five sectors. Each sector has eight representatives which will later be divided into two groups.

All players in each group will face each other. Later the two best will qualify for the semifinals.

Jonathan said the eight men's singles who escaped were definitely the best. For that, he is ready to face anyone, including world number one Viktor Axelsen.

"For the World Tour Finals, Axelsen is indeed the toughest competitor [Viktor]. He is still the strongest. However, now he can keep up," he said.

Apart from Jonathan, the five representatives who will appear are Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti, Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, and Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.
