Defeating PSG in the Champions League, Newcastle Seizes Top Position

JAKARTA - Newcastle United showed their best performance in the Champions League Group F match. In a duel at St James' Park Stadium, Thursday, October 5 early morning WIB, Newcastle destroyed Paris Saint-Germain 4-1. A landslide victory made the hosts successful in taking the top position in the standings.

Newcastle's brilliant performance gave surprising results on the second matchday of the Champions League. Even though they appeared at home, Newcastle were actually less favored. PSG is predicted to be able to overcome the hosts. Moreover, they always achieved big wins in previous matches.

After losing 2-0 to Nice in the French Ligue 1 competition, PSG immediately recovered by beating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the Champions League and then slaughtering Marseille 4-0. This makes Les Parisien have good capital when visiting Newcastle headquarters.

The problem is, Newcastle is no less consistent even though it is currently ranked eighth in the English Premier League standings. They are unbeaten for the last five matches.

Newcastle slaughtered Sheffield United 8-0 in domestic competition. After holding AC Milan 0-0 in the Champions League, the Magpies then beat elite team Manchester City 1-0 in the Carabao Cup. That positive trend continued as they beat Burnley 2-0 in the league.

This is certainly good capital for Eddie Howe's troops when they host PSG. And, the hosts showed that they were a team worth taking into account in this match.

Appearing to face SG, Newcastle made a brilliant start and immediately took the lead in the 17th minute. Midfielder Miguel Almiron successfully found the back of Gianluigi Donnarumma's goal after welcoming a wild ball. The goal started when Alexander Isak fired a shot at goal which Donnarumma was able to save.

Only the Italian national team goalkeeper didn't catch the ball perfectly and the wild ball was then put to good use by Almiron.

Winning 1-0 made Newcastle even more enthusiastic. They suppress the opponent's defense. As a result, in the 39th minute, Newcastle succeeded in increasing their lead through Daniel Burn. His header penetrated the PSG net and made Newcastle close the first half with a 2-0 lead.

In the second half, Newcastle continued to play consistently, making it difficult for Kylian Mbappe et al to control the game. PSG even fell further after Sean Longstaff scored a goal in the 50th minute. He completed an assist from defender Kieran Trippier which put The Toon Army ahead 3-0.

PSG managed to reduce the deficit just six minutes later. It was Lucas Hernandez who broke into the hosts' goal and changed the score to 3-1.

But this white and black team is unstoppable. Victory is in sight. Moreover, Fabian Schaer established Newcastle's lead after scoring in injury time. Newcastle closed the match with a 4-1 win.

This big victory immediately brought Newcastle to the top of Group F with four points. Meanwhile, PSG, which has three points, is in second place.
