Oleksandr Usyk Tells How Horror It Is On The Frontline Of The Ukraine-Russia War

JAKARTA - Ukrainian heavyweight champion from Oleksandr Usyk told in detail the horror that occurred in the war due to the Russian invasion ahead of the duel against Daniel Dubois.

Usyk, who holds the WBA (Super) heavyweight title, IBF, WBO, and IBO, will defend his title against Dubois on Saturday, August 26 at Tarczynski Arena in WroClaw, Poland.

Ahead of the duel, the father of three also recounted the experience of war as long as he spent his time on the front lines in the ghost city of Niu-York, Eastern Ukraine, to defend his country.

"Through binoculars, from a distance of 900 meters, I saw my enemies running, tanks exploding, and houses destroyed. I saw people who had no legs and hands," he said.

Russia started their invasion since February last year. Therefore, hundreds of thousands of lives have been going on for more than a year.

Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of others fled their hometowns to flee to neighboring countries such as Poland.

"When I was driving a car around the city, I realized it was a dead city. I saw children's toys and playgrounds but everything looked dead, there was no energy in that city," Usyk said.

"I realized that one day in that place, on that land, the children were playing. But now the place is dead," he added.

Ukraine, which is currently on war, left the Soviet Union 32 years ago. Therefore, they continue to struggle to maintain its existence after the Russian invasion.

WroClaw, which will be Usyk and Dubois' duel, is a city in Poland that has received about 250 thousand Ukrainians since Russia's initial invasion last year.

Foury thousand of them are said to be packed with local football stadiums on Saturday night to watch their heroes face Dubois.

This is the closest match Usyk has played at home since 2015. Victory will be a beautiful gift for Ukraine's Independence Day.
