PSSI And Menpora Ketum Meeting On The Development Of Preparations For The 2021 U-20 World Cup

JAKARTA - The government and PSSI agreed to accelerate preparations for the 2021 U-20 World Cup, both in terms of the venue, national team, and budget requirements. In the near future, the government and PSSI will form the Indonesia FIFA U-20 World Cup Organizing Committee (INAFOC) as the 2021 U-20 World Cup organizing committee.

This was conveyed by PSSI Chairman Mochamad Iriawan when together with PSSI Deputy Chairman Cucu Sumantri and PSSI Secretary General Ratu Tisha Destria met with the Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali in the Kemenpora office, Friday, February 21.

"For the determination of the six cities as host cities, PSSI and FIFA will try to speed up the announcement in early March. This is because the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing needs certainty to immediately improve infrastructure in the selected cities, "said Iriawan in a written statement received by the editorial desk.

The U-20 World Cup will take place on 23 May-12 June 2021 in six cities in Indonesia. The Chairman of PSSI has conducted direct inspections in the six cities that are the potential hosts, namely Bandung, Solo, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Palembang and Pekanbaru. Other candidates who will be officially visited are Jakarta, Bogor, Bekasi and Bali.

Regarding the readiness of the U-20 national team, Iriawan explained that this team will conduct training camps in Germany or Spain, as well as bring in international teams as match-test opponents.

Menpora Zainudin Amali emphasized that he would continue to synchronize between ministries and institutions to make the 2021 U-20 World Cup a success.

"This is a gamble for the nation's good name, because hosting a World Cup class event is very rare, it may not happen in 20-30 years," said Zainudin.

The meeting between the PSSI-Kemenpora will then be carried out regularly in preparation for the 2021 U-20 World Cup.
