JAKARTA - William Saliba signed a new, long-term contract of four years to 2027 at Arsenal on Friday, July 7.
The center-back from France is reported to have approved a contract worth 10 million (around Rp194 billion) per season.
"Depanding William's contract is something we have wanted to do for a long time," Arteta said as quoted by Antara, Saturday, July 8.
Saliba became a key player when Arsenal almost won the English Premier League last season.
"The ability that he has at the age of only 22 years is very interesting, and of course there is more room to develop with any player at the current stage of their career," he said.
Saliba was brought in by Arsenal in 2019 from French club Saint-Etienne.
However, he spent the next three seasons returning to France on loan at Saint-Etienne, Nice and Marseille.
His performance at Marseille earned him a French senior national team for the first time and he is part of a squad that reached last year's World Cup final in Qatar.
