JAKARTA - West Ham manager David Moyes insists his team and striker Michail Antonio must continue to improve in order to maintain a good Premier League start this season. Last season, they finished 16th after a fierce battle to avoid relegation.
A 2-1 home win over West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday night saw the Hammers occupy seventh place in the standings after collecting 32 points from 19 games or two points from the top four. Moyes emphasized that his men must keep on climbing.
"We want to dream, we want to be ambitious but we are also humble and we know West Ham may have been here before," the Scottish manager told the BBC as quoted by Reuters.
"I want to make it happen when the time is right and I want us to be there when we can. We are not comfortable yet, we definitely have to do much better," he continued.
West Ham were dominant against West Brom and Antonio scored a superb winner with his volley.
But Moyes feels the striker is still not at his best, while the overall appearance also leaves something to be desired.
"I don't like the performance now but I like the result. When you are not playing well and you can still pick points, that's a good sign," said Moyes.
West Brom boss Sam Allardyce was otherwise disappointed after the Baggies had to end their three-game unbeaten run after celebrating their first win since taking over the team last December thanks to a 3-2 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers last Saturday.
"We came here to follow up on the points earned at Wolves," he told BT Sport, admitting that his team had lost concentration and conceded two goals that could have been avoided.
"We have conceded more goals than anyone in the Premier League and we are working hard to stop it. It's good to see the second half response but in the end our defense disappointed us."
