JAKARTA - The Indonesian men's volleyball national team won tickets for the semifinals of the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia. The last four tickets were won by the Red and White Team after defeating Singapore 3-0 (29-27, 25-8, 25-10) in the preliminary round of Group A at the Phnom Penh Olympic Stadium, Cambodia, Thursday, May 4.
Through a consecutive victory over Singapore and previously in the Philippines, Indonesia is now at the top of the Group A standings with six points. In second place is the host Cambodia with the same points.
The national team will return to compete in the group A stage on Saturday, May 6, against Cambodia. Indonesian coach Jeff Jiang Jie revealed that he would evaluate the last two matches, especially the first set against Singapore.
In addition, he will involve more young players. "The first set is quite challenging. There is a big problem in that set. The team and I will evaluate and solve the problem," Jeff Jiang said when met after the match.
"Young players will be involved to play on the field (in the match against Cambodia). They are the future for Indonesian volleyball," he added.
Furthermore, he hopes that the team can be more compact in order to provide maximum performance in front of hundreds of pairs of eyes watching and supporting their favorite team.
On the other hand, the Chef de Mission (CdM) of the Indonesian Team at the 2023 SEA Games Lexyndo Hakim said the men's volleyball national team victory was one of the momentum for the revival of Indonesian team sports.
"We, the CdM team, are very grateful for the victory of the Men's Football National Team and the Men's Volleyball National Team. This is a momentum for the revival of the Red and White team's sports and shows our cohesiveness as Indonesian countries," said Lexy.
