JAKARTA - AC Milan is one step away from signing veteran Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic on a free transfer, the Daily Mail reported on Sunday.

The 34-year-old is currently without a club after leaving Al Duhail in July last year, but several Italian media have now claimed that he will be Milan's newest signing.

Calciomercato even said that the negotiation process was complete and Mandzukic would officially join on Tuesday (local time).

Mandzukic is likely to sign a six-month contract until the end of the season, and then take up a year-long extension option.

AC Milan is also reportedly considering an alternative agreement by immediately giving Mandzukic an 18-month contract.

However, club directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are reported to have postponed the deal, with Mandzukic just emerging as their target earlier this week.

A number of clubs expressed interest in signing Mandzukic after his contract at the Qatari club was terminated early.

Aston Villa, West Ham and Celta Vigo are clubs that are interested in getting the services of this experienced striker.

Mandzukic played for Juventus between 2015 and 2019, scoring 44 goals in 162 games in all competitions.
