JAKARTA Jorge Masvidal denies the accusation that he used a lotion that was conveyed by his opponent Gilbert Burns after their fight at UFC 287 last weekend.

Masvidal lost a number to Burns in Miami, Sunday, April 9 yesterday. He gave up in front of his own supporters before announcing his retirement afterwards.

After the fight, Burns claimed Masvidal had cheated in their match. He accused the American fighter of using a lotion to keep his body slippery during the grappling.

This accusation made Masvidal have to speak up. Through the "The MMA Hour" show, he said what Burns said had absolutely no basis.

"There are a lot of people backstage other than the American Anti-Doping Agency. I've never cheated. I've never been caught for cheating or anything," he said.

Masvidal further said that if he used the lotion as alleged by Burns the referee who led the match they should have known about it.

"I have never cheated, I will not cheat. I have never even got a single point in my 50 professional matches. So, for this person who tried to slander my name in my last match," said Masvidal.

"The allegations bothered me because I never applied oil or Vaseline or anything. I've never used steroids, I've never lost weight. So, I feel I don't have to cheat to beat any of them," he added.

The defeat in UFC 287 was Masvidal's fourth defeat in a row. Previously he suffered successive defeats to Kamaru Usman in 2020 and 2021 and Colby Covington in March.
