Received Instructions For FIFA Lobby, PSSI Chairman Disbursed President Jokowi's Message

PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir revealed President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) message after receiving an assignment to meet FIFA to ensure clarity from the 2023 U-20 World Cup in Indonesia.

Erick was assigned by President Jokowi to meet FIFA after the draw for the 2023 U-20 World Cup group stage which was supposed to be held in Bali on March 31 was canceled.

"I have received instructions from the President to immediately depart and diplomacy to find a solution for Indonesian football," said Erick at Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium, Tuesday, March 28 evening.

Indonesia's status as the host of the age group event has now drawn a lot of speculation after the wave of rejection of the Israeli team strengthened.

This rejection allowed Indonesia to cross out as the host of this important event. Some of the latest rumors even mention that FIFA has appointed Peru as a replacement for Indonesia.

Erick said Jokowi advised that diplomacy with FIFA could get the best results for Indonesian football. The reason is, if Indonesia is crossed out, a number of severe sanctions will most likely be imposed.

"This is not an easy thing and of course I will try my best. Please pray to all of us who are assigned to get the best results. (President Jokowi advised) to work best and the best solution for Indonesian football," he said.

The 2023 U-20 World Cup will take place from 20 May to 11 June. A total of 24 contestant countries have confirmed themselves to qualify.

That includes Indonesia which automatically gets tickets because of its host status. However, if Indonesia fails to host, the ticket quota will definitely be lost.
