Returning To Training In Dubai, One Celtic Player Catches COVID-19

JAKARTA - Celtic on Sunday announced that one of their players had tested positive for COVID-19, just two days after the Scottish club returned home from training in Dubai, as a training camp in a warm-weather region.

Celtic's departure to train in Dubai on January 2 was the target of criticism from Scottish Deputy Prime Minister John Swiney, who called it "not a good idea" amid the COVID-19 pandemic that is still sweeping the world.

Celtic did not specify whether the positive players based on the COVID-19 test results were members of the squad who participated in training in Dubai.

"Celtic today confirmed that one of our players is positive based on the COVID-19 test. This player certainly has the full support and care of the club," said an announcement made by Celtic via their official Twitter account, @CelticFC, quoted by Antara.

Simultaneously Celtic also stated that apart from that one positive result, all squad members, both players, coaching staff and management tested negative for COVID-19.

Celtic today confirmed that one player has recorded a positive test for covid-19. Clearly the player will receive all our care and full support. All other members of our squad, management team and backroom squad are negative.

Celtic are currently in second place in the Scottish League standings with a collection of 43 points and 22 points behind Rangers.

Celtic's last appearance was in a 1-0 loss against Rangers in the Old Firm Derby on Saturday, January 2 before leaving for Dubai.
