Ahead of the appearance at the 2023 FIA World Resilience Championship, Indonesian racer Sean Gelael received a special award from the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI). After years of holding the best international driver title, Sean is now awarded Lifetime Achievement.
The award was addressed by IMI to Sean Gelael for his dedication in making Indonesia proud in the international arena. Sean received the award at the IMI Awards 2023 agenda which took place at the Sultan Hotel, Central Jakarta on Saturday, February 18.
Bambang Soesatyo alias Bamsoet as IMI chairman immediately gave the award to Sean Gelael. According to him, Sean deserves Lifetime Achievement for his dedication to racing in the country.
Sean (Gelael) is the right role model for our young racer, not even for four wheels but also for two wheels. He has given everything for IMI and for Indonesia. Imagine since childhood he has participated in the race and produced achievements," said Bamsoet in a written statement, Sunday, February 19.
So far Sean Gelael is an Indonesian racer who regularly appears in international events. He has tested various competitions ranging from the F3 class, F2, and is now at the WEC or the endurance race.
Not only that, this 26-year-old racer even had time to try out F1 with Toro Rosso even though it was only in free practice sessions.
For the award, Sean Gelael admitted that he was surprised. He feels proud of what he has done so far and hopes that this moment can be an impetus to give birth to racing athletes from Indonesia on the international stage.
"I am happy, proud, and at the same time say thank you to the family and all those who have brought me to the position now," said Sean.
"Furthermore, we can join hands to produce Indonesian racing athletes at the international level," he continued.
After receiving this award, Sean Gelael will again put his focus on returning to competing in the FIA World Resilience Championships with Team WRT 31. He will co-exist with Robin Frijns from the Netherlands and Ferdinand Habsburg from Austria in the LMP2 class.
