Garuda Select Affected By The UK National Lockdown Policy

JAKARTA - The Garuda Select Team was affected by the lockdown or quarantine policy implemented by the British Government. The match against Mansfield U-18 which was scheduled to take place today, Wednesday had to be canceled.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson re-imposed a lockdown policy due to the emergence of a new variant of the corona virus in his country. Moreover, cases of COVID-19 transmission in the UK have increased after the Christmas and New Year holidays.

During this policy, sports matches may not be held other than elite competitions such as the English Premier League.

"The Garuda Select match against Mansfield which was originally scheduled for January 6 was officially canceled. The lockdown imposed by the British government prevented the match from being carried out," Garuda Select wrote on its official website, Wednesday.

"The management of the Garuda Select program respects this decision and has decided to cancel the match against Mansfield U-18."

Even though there are lockdown rules, Garuda Select will continue to carry out training in locations that are considered safe from transmission by complying with health protocols established by the local government.

Management will also monitor the health conditions of its players regularly considering that this new corona virus variant is considered to have a faster transmission rate.

"Player safety is Garuda Select's main focus. Therefore, the player's condition will continue to be monitored regularly," the management statement said.

The Garuda Select match against Mansfield U-18 should be the second match between Dennis Wise and Des Walker's team in the program's third season.

Earlier in the first match, Garuda Select was able to draw against Port Vale U-18 with a score of 1-1 thanks to a goal by I Putu Dipa Yogi Arta.
