JAKARTA The All-Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) officially appointed Indra Sjafri as the coach of the Indonesian U-22 national team for the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games.

The former coach of the Indonesian U-23 national team who now serves as PSSI Technical Director was appointed based on the results of the PSSI Executive Committee meeting on Monday, January 30, 2023.

"Given the approaching implementation of the SEA Games in Cambodia, PSSI needs to take steps to appoint a coach who will be responsible for the event," said PSSI Secretary General in his statement.

"This is certainly in line with the Kemenpora and KOI programs regarding the preparation of sports (sports) for achievements that will be carried out immediately," he added.

The appointment of Indra Sjafri was carried out because the Indonesian national team coach Shin Tae-yong will focus on the Indonesian U-20 team which will compete in the U-20 World Cup.

As is known, the 2023 SEA Games are planned to be held on May 5-17, 2023. Meanwhile, the U-20 World Cup will be held on May 20-June 11, 2023.

Indra Sjafri himself had previously coached the Indonesian U-19 national team. In addition, he also led the Indonesian national team age group U-22 to come out as the winner of the AFF Cup in 2019 after defeating Thailand.
