JAKARTA Men's doubles pair Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin got tickets to the final of the Indonesia Masters 2023 after beating the second seeded pair and 2021 world champion, Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi.

The 2019 junior world champion went through a dramatic three-game match 18-21, 21-17, and 21-3 to repatriate the Japanese pair at the Istora Senayan Stadium, Jakarta, Saturday, January 28, 2023.

"The first seat we lost, secondly tight, the third time they made a lot of mistakes and we took advantage of the opportunity," Daniel said at a press conference after the game after the match.

"Thank you for the supporters who have come all this way to support. Tomorrow there will be all the final chances of winning. Just take advantage of it," he added.

This victory also sharpened Leo/Daniel's winning record over the world number four to 2-1. Previously Leo/Daniel defeated the pair at their inaugural meeting at the Japan Open 2022.

Meanwhile, Takuro/Yugo's only win took place at the Hylo Open in 2022. In the previous two matches, the two pairs played both games.

The victory obtained by Leo/Daniel made Indonesia secure a total of three Indonesian Masters final tickets this year. Indonesia also has the potential to defend the men's doubles title which was held last year by Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto.

Before, Leo/Daniel, Indonesia had secured two final tickets from the men's singles number. That means the Red and White have automatically secured one title from this BWF Super 500 level event.

The men's singles tickets were each obtained by Jonatan Christie and Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo. Jonathan defeated Chinese men's singles Shi Yuqi, while Chico followed after repatriating Hong Ng representative Ka Long Angus.

Jonathan and Chico's party will be the first All Indonesia Final at the Indonesia Masters since Simon Santoso defeated D. Hayom Rumbaka in 2013 or the first at Istora since Sony Dwi Kuncoro against Simon Santoso at the 2008 Indonesia Open.
