Quarterfinals Of Malaysia Open 2023: Different Fates Of Dejan/Gloria With Anthony Ginting

JAKARTA - Mixed doubles Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja qualified for the semifinals of the Malaysia Open 2023. This Indonesian pair defeated Kim Won-ho/Jeong Na-eun.

Dejan/Gloria won over the South Korean pair through a two-game straight match. The only representative of the Red and White in the mixed doubles won 21-16 and 21-19 at the Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur, Friday, January 13 evening WIB.

This result is revenge for Dejan/Gloria who have been made to give up three games in their only previous meeting. At that time, Dejan/Gloria lost at the Australian Open, November 2022 yesterday.

The next journey of Dejan/Gloria will be even tougher because they meet first seed Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong. The Chinese pair reached the semifinals after defeating eighth seed France Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue.

Dejan/Gloria are the second representatives of Indonesia to reach the semifinals. Previously, the first ticket was secured by the women's doubles pair Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti.

Both qualified for the top four after repatriating third seed Kim So Yeong/Kong Hee Yong. This semifinal ticket makes the 2021 SEA Games gold medalist move up to fifth in the world next week.

Apri/Fadia are the defending champions at the Malaysia Open. Last year those who came were not seeded, managed to climb the highest podium after winning over Chinese women's doubles Zhang Shuxian/Zheng Yu.

Unfortunately, the success of Dejan/Gloria and Apri/Fadia was not followed by the men's singles Anthony Sinisuka Ginting. The bronze medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics lost to the Japanese representative, Kanta Tsuneyama, with a score of 14-21 and 16-21.
