JAKARTA - The U-16 national team under the tutelage of Bima Sakti is likely to be taken over by Shin Tae-yong to be prepared for the U-20 World Cup which has been postponed in 2023.

Acting Secretary General of PSSI Yunus Nusi in Jakarta, Saturday said that the postponement of this schedule had an effect on the current preparations for the U-19 national team. Initially they were projected for the AFC U-19 Cup and U-20 World Cup.

However, due to the schedule postponement, the U-19 national team, which has been training for a year, is certain to have passed the age limit. Only a few may still be able to play in the U-20 World Cup.

"First for the U-19 departing, there are three players who can still play in the 2023 World Cup. There are Kakang Rudianto, Erlangga Setyo. Then these children also from the technical director recommend that some of them will be able to become national team players for the 2021 SEA Games," said Yunus Nusi as reported by Antara, Saturday.

In terms of age, the players who will compete in the 2023 World Cup are members of the U-16 national team. Even so, the decision whether to take over Shin Tae-yong or not will only be decided after PSSI holds a meeting with Exco in early 2021.

"After the new year, the PSSI Ketum will convey to Exco again to make a preparation program in the coming year, when there is a change in the World Cup schedule," he added.

The U-16 national team itself has completed its training camp in Yogyakarta from 6 to 23 December. They are prepared to face the AFC U-16 Cup in Bahrain in 2021.

Meanwhile, responding to the postponement of the U-20 World Cup, Yunus said that this did not make any adjustments to the program that had been designed. This TC is PSSI's responsibility in fostering players for the future.

The U-19 national team players are still leaving for Spain to continue the training camp program which will last until January 31st.

"PSSI is still responsible for fostering children. But more importantly, these children will become the forerunners of the future of Indonesian national team players," concluded Yunus Nusi.
